NEW HAVEN, Conn. - In one of their most exciting matches of the season, the No. 5 Bulldogs flirted with an upset against No. 1, undefeated Penn.
To start off the afternoon, No. 3 Max Forster and No. 9 Eric Kim notched key victories for the Elis. Forster, whose opponent resigned due to injury after the third game, won 2-1. Kim came back from down 0-2 to secure a heroic 3-2 victory in a match that lasted an hour and 12 minutes.
After Kim's come-from-behind victory, all eyes turned to No. 5 Maxwell Orr, who battled back-and-forth with his Penn counterpart for one hour and 25 minutes: the longest match of the afternoon. In the end, Orr fell 3-2 with scores of 12-10, 10-12, 9-11, 13-11 and 9-11.
To close off the afternoon, No. 4 Siow Yee Xian and No. 7 Jed Burde narrowly surrendered hard-fought matches to their opponents.
Next weekend, the Bulldogs welcome No. 11 Dartmouth to the Brady Center on Friday and travel to Cambridge to face No. 2 Harvard on Sunday.
