Bulldogs Host Columbia, Lafayette

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale field hockey team hosts a pair of games this weekend, taking on Columbia Friday at 6:00 p.m. (ESPN+, International Stream, Live Stats) and Lafayette Sunday at 2:00 p.m. (ESPN+, International Stream, Live Stats).
 
LAST GAME
Yale (6-6, 1-2 Ivy League) fell to No. 18 UMass 1-0 last Sunday. The Minutewomen scored less than a minute into the game, and while junior goalkeeper Luanna Summer (St. Louis, Mo.) and the Yale defense then held UMass scoreless for 59:06 the Bulldogs could not score on UMass goalie Myrte Van Herwijnen. Summer finished with four saves while Van Herwijnen made three.
 
STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE TRENDS UP
Three of Yale's last four opponents have been ranked in the NFHCA National Poll. While the Bulldogs did not win any of those games, they did lower their margin of defeat, and the number of shots they allowed, with each successive game. Yale has now played five teams that are currently in the top 30 in the NCAA RPI rankings, including a 2-1 win vs. Drexel (now ranked No. 28 in the RPI) on Sept. 11.

Nine players have started all 12 games for Yale this year. The group includes:  
WRAPPING UP NON-LEAGUE SLATE
Sunday marks Yale's final non-league game of the season. The Bulldogs are 5-4 in non-league games so far, including a 3-1 mark at home.
 
DILLMAN AMONG IVY LEADERS
Senior midfielder Théodora Dillman (Lancaster, Pa.) enters the weekend tied for fifth in the Ivy League with six goals and tied for seventh in the Ivy League with 13 points. She is a three-time All-Ivy honoree, having earned second team All-Ivy League twice and honorable mention All-Ivy League once. Last season she was fifth in the league in points (24, a career high) and tied for fifth in goals (nine, a career high).

SCOUTING COLUMBIA
Columbia (3-8, 1-2 Ivy League) has lost five of its last six games, with the lone win coming in overtime (3-2 at Brown Oct. 8). Yale has won three in a row in the series, including a 4-2 win last season in New York. Sophomore forward Lily Ramsey (Summit, N.J.) scored her first career goal, and it proved to be the game winner at 53:20.  
 
SCOUTING LAFAYETTE
Lafayette (4-10, 0-3 Patriot League), which hosts BU Saturday, comes into the weekend with three losses in its last four games. The Leopards' last 11 games have all been decided by one goal. Three have gone to overtime.
