NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Due to season-ending injury, Yale women's basketball senior forward
Camilla Emsbo (Lakewood, Colo.) will be sidelined for the 2022-23 season.
The injury brings Emsbo's Yale playing career to an abrupt end, but she has already established her place in the Yale record books. She is second on Yale's career blocks list with 172. She is seventh on Yale's career rebounds list (715). She joined the 1,000 point club last season and is 18th on Yale's career scoring list (1,092 points).
Emsbo is a two-time All-Ivy League honoree, including a unanimous first team All-Ivy selection last year. She led the league in blocks per game (2.2, 26th nationally), double doubles (13) and field goal percentage (.514). She was second in rebounds per game (10.2), third in free throw percentage (.704) and seventh in points per game (14.1).
Emsbo's teammates had elected her captain for this season, and she remains a part of the team. The Bulldogs open the 2022-23 season at Fordham on Nov. 7.
"We are devastated for Camilla to have an injury that caused an abrupt end to her Yale career," said
Dalila Eshe, Yale's Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach of Women's Basketball. "She will, however, remain an integral part of our team. As our senior captain the team will look for guidance from her on and off the court. She will be an extension of our coaching staff and help lead, more specifically, our young post players throughout the season. We will support her next steps after graduating from Yale."
