Ramsey’s Goals Lift Yale to 2-1 Win at Dartmouth

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore forward Lily Ramsey continues to have a knack for scoring big goals for the Yale field hockey team. On Saturday afternoon at Dartmouth, the Bulldogs were trailing the Big Green 1-0 in the third quarter when Ramsey scored at 36:06 off a nifty pass from junior forward/midfielder Ashley Kim to tie the game. Less than six minutes later she scored again, this time flicking in a loose ball after a penalty corner shot by senior midfielder Alissa Wong was deflected by Kim and a Big Green defender. That wound up being the decisive goal, as Yale withstood two late Dartmouth penalty corners for the 2-1 win.

Three of Ramsey's six goals this season, and five of her nine career goals, have been game-winners. Saturday's came after a first half in which the Bulldogs outshot the Big Green 5-2 but still trailed 1-0, as Dartmouth keeper Hatley Post made three saves in the half. Big Green midfielder Lila Browne's tally at 25:25 gave her team the lead. That snapped a streak of 152:29 in which Yale had held Dartmouth scoreless, dating back to the Bulldogs' 4-3 win against the Big Green Oct. 13, 2018.

After Ramsey scored twice in a span of 6:19 of the third, the Yale defense took care of the rest. Dartmouth (3-13, 0-6 Ivy League) got five shots in the third quarter, but only two on goal. Both came on a penalty corner in the final 45 seconds, as junior goalkeeper Luanna Summer turned away attempts by midfielder Bronwyn Bird and forward Gabriela Braceras to tie the game. On another Big Green penalty corner 45 seconds earlier, senior back Laine Garber blocked a shot by Browne.

This marked the seventh time this season Summer and the Bulldogs have held an opponent to one goal or less. It was Yale's sixth win in a row in the series against Dartmouth.

Yale (9-7, 3-3 Ivy League) has won three games in a row, all by one goal. Seeking their second 10 win season since the 2011 Ivy League Championship season, the Bulldogs conclude the campaign next Saturday at No. 24 Cornell.
