Late Goal lifts Yale over Brown in Regular Season Finale

Sixth road victory of season for Bulldogs who hope to earn NCAA Tournament consideration

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Yale men's soccer team ended another successful regular season with a thrilling victory. Eric Lagos headed home a Paolo Carroll cross with 2:29 left in the second half as the Bulldogs came from behind to edge Brown 2-1 at Stevenson-Pincince Field.

Yale ends the regular season with a 7-4-5 overall record that came against a very challenging schedule. Kylie Stannard, the 5K Corral Head Coach of the Bulldogs, hopes his team has more soccer left.

"While we have battled through a lot of injuries over the last several weeks, there is no question this team is an NCAA tournament caliber team," he said. "Our entire body of work shows our level, so I am hopeful that the NCAA Tournament Committee considers us in their conversation for an at-large bid, and especially with the Ivy League being a top five ranked conference this year."

There certainly is a case to be made for the Bulldogs to earn NCAA consideration. Yale's schedule included four games against teams currently in the RPI top 21. The Bulldogs earned draws against two teams in the RPI top-10 – Duke and Cornell. Yale also posted a strong 6-1-3 road record.

The Bulldogs showed their mettle against the Bears. After a scoreless first half, Brown struck first when Kojo Dadzie scored on a penalty kick at 62:21.

A little over four minutes later, Yale answered with a pretty goal. Max Rogers sent a corner kick into the box where Jeremy Haddock flew in to head it home.

The Bulldogs peppered the Brown goal with 11 shots in the second half and finished with a 13-10 advantage.

Goalkeeper Elian Haddock needed to make only one save to post the victory.

"Proud is probably an overused word but it's hard to find something better to express how I feel about this group to stay focused through some difficult results in the Ivy League, and to earn a win today is a testament to their steadiness and pride in the jersey," Stannard said.

Seven seniors – Jeremy and Elian Haddock, Sigfus Arnason, Paolo Carroll, Jules Oberg, Will Seidman, and Thomas Toneysuited up for the final time in the regular season.

"This senior group has been special and have elevated the expectations and standards for this program," Stannard said. "They have raised the bar even higher, and I am very grateful for all they've given to the program."
