NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Bulldogs are going to the Big Dance.
Yale defeated Brown 3-1 on Saturday night and won the Ivy League Tournament championship on its home court. The scores of the match were 25-21, 25-21, 25-27 and 25-18.
With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 23-2 overall with a 13-1 mark in Ivy League play. Yale will next play in the NCAA Tournament.
Carly Diehl was named the tournament's most outstanding player, while teammates
Gigi Barr and
Cara Shultz were also named to the all-tournament team.
In tonight's match, the Bulldogs out-blocked the Bears. Brown entered the weekend the top blocking team in the conference.
Barr had a team-high 17 kills and hit .444, and a team-best six blocks. Yale held a 12-8 edge in total team blocks.
Diehl filled the stat sheet with 43 assists, 16 digs, six kills, three blocks and two aces. Shultz had 12 kills, while
Fatima Samb added 10.
Maile Somera and
Mila Yarich both had 15 digs, while
Bella Chan had 10.
Next up, the Bulldogs await their destination and opponent for the NCAA Tournament. The tournament selection show will air on Sunday, November 27, at 7:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
