NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Fresh off a trip to Hawaii and a Rainbow Classic title, the Yale men's basketball team continued its hot start to the season on Sunday. The Bulldogs shot 71 percent from the field in the first half on their way to a dominant 112-55 victory over John Jay at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.

Yale had a 66-23 lead after 20 minutes.

Yale has won its first five games of a season for the first time in the highly successful tenure of
James Jones, The Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach of the Bulldogs.

Matt Knowling and
Nick Townsend both had a game-high 15 points for the Bulldogs. Knowling, who was named the Ivy League Player of the Week and was the Most Valuable Player at the Rainbow Classic, made all seven shots from the floor and added six rebounds and four assists in just 15 minutes of action. Townsend was 6-of-8 from the field and added four rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench.

Every Bulldog who played scored at least two points.
EJ Jarvis was the other Bulldog in double figures with 12 points.
August Mahoney was 3-of-3 from three-point range and finished with nine points,
Yassine Gharram and
Emir Buyukhanli contributed eight points and
Isaiah Kelly scored seven.

Yale outrebounded John Jay 50-19 and held a 64-16 scoring edge in the paint.Â

The Bulldogs also had 28 assists on their 44 field goals.
Bez Mbeng had seven assists to lead the way.

Yale is right back at Lee Amphitheater on Tuesday, hosting Vermont. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m.
