NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Offensive lineman Nick Gargiulo and defensive back Wande Owens, who both helped the Yale football team to an outright Ivy League championship, have been named to the New England Football Writers Association All-New England team. The team honors the best FBS and FCS players by position in New England from the 2022 season.
 
The players represent teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Big South Conference, the Colonial Athletic Association, the Ivy League, the Northeast Conference, and the Patriot League. Additionally, players were chosen from independents UConn and UMass.
 
Gargiulo, the team captain and a unanimous first team All-Ivy selection, anchored an offensive line that helped the Bulldogs lead the Ivy League in rushing, total offense and scoring offense.
 
Owens, who was elected captain of the 2023 Bulldogs last Sunday and also a unanimous first team All-Ivy selection, appeared in all 10 games this fall and tied for the team lead with 63 tackles. In addition, he  added one sack and six tackles for loss.
 
The team will be honored at the New England Football Writers Captains and Awards Banquet on Thursday, December 8, at the Sheraton Framingham Hotel and Conference Center.
