NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The last time the Yale men's basketball team played was in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last March against Purdue in Milwaukee. The Bulldogs begin their quest to return to the post season in 2022-23 on Monday night when Sarah Lawrence visits Lee Amphitheater. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.

Expectations are once again high for Yale, which received votes in the CollegeInsider.com preseason mid-major top 25 poll. In the Ivy League preseason media poll, the Bulldogs, the defending Ivy League Tournament champions, received three first-place votes and were picked to finish third.

It has been a remarkable stretch of recent success for Yale, which over the last seven seasons has posted a 74-24 (.755) Ivy League record, won four Ivy championships, two Ivy League Tournament titles and earned four NCAA Tournament berths, including notching the first NCAA victory in school history – over Baylor in 2016.

The Bulldogs won 19 games a year ago, captured the Ivy League Tournament title with a thrilling victory over Princeton in the championship game and earned an NCAA Tournament bid for the third straight season.

Three starters from that return, and there remains considerable depth and talent.

HISTORY LESSONS

Yale and Sarah Lawrence are playing for the first time. Yale has won its season opener in five of the last six seasons. Over the last nine seasons, the Bulldogs are 90-23 in the friendly confines of Lee Amphitheater. Yale has won its home opener in each of the last 11 years.

SCOUTING SARAH LAWRENCE

Lucas Murray is Sarah Lawrence's leading returning scorer. He averaged 8.4 points last season. The Gryphons finished 8-16 overall last year. Yale is the first of two Ivy League opponents on Sarah Lawrence schedule. The Gryphons play at Columbia on Dec. 4.
