Box Score NEW HAVEN, Conn. –
William Dineen scored two power-play goals and had an assist and
Nathan Reid stopped 31 shots as the Yale Men's Ice Hockey Team earned a 3-2 ECAC Hockey win over Union at Ingalls Rink.
"The guys competed really hard for a full 60 minutes, and that's what it takes to win in this league," said
Keith Allain '80, Yale's Malcolm G. Chace Head Coach. "I was pleased to see our power play produce two goals tonight, that was the difference in the game."
Dineen, a first-year center, opened the scoring in the first period on a setup from
Briggs Gammill, who had a two-point night. After the visitors tied the score in the first, Dineen helped defenseman
Dylan Herzog get his first collegiate goal.
"I saw the puck coming through the slot and it bounced off the boards. I just stepped into it and it went high blocker on the goalie," said Herzog, who got his sixth point of the season.
Dineen's second of the night gave the Elis a 3-1 lead that became a one-goal margin with 3:27 left in a third period that saw the Dutchmen have an 18-2 advantage in shots.
That's where Reid came up big for the Bulldogs.
The sophomore goalie was diving all over the place making stops to get his team the win with hopes of earning home ice for the first weekend of the conference playoffs.
The Bulldogs, who swept the season series with Union, are home Saturday night at 7 to host RPI on Senior Night at the Whale.
