NEW HAVEN, Conn. – An early, two-goal lead was almost enough to give the undermanned Yale Men's Hockey Team a victory against No. 20 Clarkson.
However, the Golden Knights erased the deficit with three straight tallies to earn a 3-2 win against the Bulldogs at Ingalls Rink.
Yale had just nine healthy forwards to suit up tonight.
Kyle Johnson, who was moved up to the top line with all the injuries, got things started for the home team by making a behind-the-back, drop pass to
Ian Carpentier on a play that ended up with the puck in the back of the net just 82 seconds into the game. Johnson took the defense with him and left Carpentier room in the high slot to beat Clarkson goalie Jacob Mucitelli stick side. It was his team-high eighth goal of the season.
Yale's power play cashed in on its first opportunity midway through the first to make it 2-0.
Graham Lillibridge's shot from the point through traffic found its way to the net for his fourth goal, and it looked like the Elis might pull off the upset.
Sophomore goalie
Nathan Reid, who made 16 saves in the game, helped stop four of five power plays and hold off a high-powered offense that tallied five times last night at Brown.
The visitors got the winner at 6:45 of the third period just after killing off a penalty.
Yale is back in action Tuesday night at Princeton.
