Box Score SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – There are five games left in the 2021-22 regular season, but the No. 9 Yale Women's Hockey Team has eclipsed its record for victories in a season.
Senior
Tess Dettling notched her first career hat trick and had two assists as the Bulldogs beat Union to register their 18
th win of the year. The previous record of 17 victories came from the 2019-20 squad, the first season for
Mark Bolding as Susan Cavanagh Head Coach.
Senior
Gianna Meloni stopped all 26 shots to post her fifth shutout this season, which tied her with three different former Bulldogs for the Yale season record. Meloni is now third on the school's career shutout list with 10.
Dettling, enjoying a career-high 12 goals and 22 points this winter, ignited the power play to help the Elis take the lead midway through the opening frame. She carried the puck into the home end, spun around, and then got the puck to the point for first-year blueliner
Olivia Muhn, looking for her first career tally. Muhn fired a low shot through traffic that found the net.
The visitors made it 2-0 later in the first when Dettling crashed the net and found a rebound from an
Anna Bargman shot, which led to the Elis breaking the game open with a four-goal second period. Bargman had a two-point outing.
Junior
Charlotte Welch, who had two goals today, found the net shorthanded after intercepting a pass in defensive end and going the distance. It was the first of two shorties for the Bulldogs, who lead Division I with eight overall.
Yale (18-5-1) is home for three games next week, the final ones of the regular season at Ingalls Rink, including a Tuesday night rematch with the Dutchwomen.
