Bulldogs Draw Purdue in NCAA Tournament First Round

No. 14 Yale meets No. 3 seeded Boilermakers in Milwaukee

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's basketball will meet Purdue in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday in Milwaukee, Wis.

The Bulldogs, who earned the Ivy League's automatic bid to the tournament by beating Princeton in the championship game of the league tournament earlier on Sunday, are a No. 14 seed in the East Region after finishing the regular season with a 19-11 overall record. Purdue, a No. 3 seed, has a 27-7 overall record and is ranked No. 9 in the nation. The Boilermakers fell to Iowa in the Big Ten Championship game earlier on Sunday.

"It's always exciting to see your team's name pop up on the screen," said James Jones, The Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach of the Bulldogs.

Jones is familiar with two Boilermakers - Caleb Furst and Jaden Ivey. The two played for the USA Basketball Men's U19 Team that Jones served as an assistant coach for last summer. The trio helped Team USA capture the gold medal at the FIBA U19 World Cup in Riga, Latvia.

The winner of the Yale-Purdue game meets the winner of the Texas-Virginia Tech game on Sunday.
