CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Yale women's team tested itself on the road against the No. 1 team in the country Sunday afternoon, taking on defending NCAA Champion BC. The Bulldogs got contributions from many of their younger players, including seven goals from first years – highlighted by the first career hat trick for first-year attacker
Taylor Everson. But the Eagles got big games from some of their veteran standouts. Attacker Charlotte North – the 2021 Tewaaraton Award winner – had seven goals, and 2021 third team All-American attacker Jenn Medjid added three goals and an assist. That ultimately led BC to a 21-9 win over the Bulldogs.
The game was moved indoors to BC's Fish Field House due to inclement weather. Everson scored a pair of goals in the first quarter, but North scored four to help get the Eagles a 10-3 lead heading into the second. BC also had a 10-3 advantage in draw controls in the first, negating a Yale strength. The Bulldogs came into the game 12th nationally in draw control percentage (.582), while BC was 16th (.570). BC finished with a 24-8 draw control edge.
BC (8-0, 2-0 ACC) extended its lead to 15-4 heading into halftime, outscoring the Bulldogs 5-1 in the second quarter. That included two more goals from North. The second half was evenly played – BC outscored Yale 6-5 – as the Eagles finished off their 13th win in a row.
First-year midfielder
Becca Gill provided a late highlight for the Bulldogs with 5:34 left in the fourth, notching her first career goal. In addition to Everson's three goals, Yale also got two goals each from senior attacker
Olivia Markert and first-year midfielder
Fallon Vaughn. First-year midfielder
Sophie Straka also scored.
Yale was 13-for-14 on clear attempts and had a 14-12 advantage on ground balls. Junior defender
Ali Anderson and sophomore midfielder
Payton Vaughn each had a pair of ground balls to lead Yale defensively. First-year goalie
Cami Donadio played the final three quarters and made five saves.
