Jake Williams scored twice and
Tommy Martin had two hits in a wild 8-7 loss at California Baptist on Friday night in Riverside, Calif.
After falling behind 5-0 after two innings, the Bulldogs scored five times in the third to tie the game. The game would later be tied two more times before the Lancers scored in the bottom of the ninth with two outs to win the game.
Williams led off the third with a single and
Colton Shaw followed with a one-out double.Â
Mason LaPlante walked to load the bases and then the scoring started.
Ben Metzner drew a bases-loaded walk for the first run.Â
Alec Atkinson put one through the left side to drive in Shaw and LaPlante. Â
Jimmy Chatfield added a run-scoring single and
Jake Gehri added a sac fly to tie the game and cap the rally.  The Lancers scored in the bottom of third to retake the lead.Â
The teams traded runs in the fourth. LaPlante plated Williams on a RBI groundout to tie the game before Cal Baptist grabbed the lead again.
In the sixth,
Carson Swank singled to lead off the inning and stole second. He scored on a Shaw groundout.
Carter Kessinger tossed 2 and 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of
Grant Kipp after entering with one out in the fifth.Â
Reid Easterly pitched the final two innings for Yale and retired the first two batters in the ninth before getting into trouble. Â
The two teams play game two of the series on Saturday.
