Bulldogs Belt Six Home Runs in Doubleheader Sweep

Vives, Latta each go deep twice as Yale wins twice at Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. – Yale used the long ball to earn a doubleheader sweep at Dartmouth. Maddie Latta, Carmen Muscolina and Grayson Vives all homered in a four-run sixth inning as the Bulldogs posted a wild, 8-7 victory over the Big Green in the opener. In the second game, Vives and Katie Donahey hit back-to-back homers in the fifth inning and Latta added another blast in the sixth as Yale completed the sweep with a 6-2 win.

In all, the Bulldogs hit six home runs on the day. They had hit seven in 15 games coming into the doubleheader.

After the two wins, the Bulldogs sit at 3-2 in Ivy League play.

The score was tied at 4 entering the sixth inning of the first game, but Latta quickly changed that with a blast over the left field fence. Carolyn Skotz followed with a double and then it was Muscolina's turn to go deep. Before most of the Bulldogs had sat down after celebrating Muscolina's shot, Vives belted a drive down the left-field line for another home run.

The Big Green answered with back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to close within one, but Nicole Conway got the final six outs in relief, allowing only one run, to preserve the win.

After Dartmouth had taken a 1-0 lead in the second inning, the Bulldogs scored four times in the third to take the lead. The big hit was Alex Perren's two-run single.

The Big Green, though, immediately answered with three in the bottom of the inning to tie the score at 4-4.

The second game was tied at 2-2 entering the fifth. That's when Yale's bats came alive. Vives' two-run homer to left snapped the tie, and Donahey followed with a long drive over the left-field fence to make it 5-2.

Latta's solo home run in the sixth capped the scoring.

Conway pitched a complete-game four-hitter to earn the victory in the circle. Sam Goodcase was 3-for-3 at the plate.

The three-game series concludes with a single game on Sunday. The first pitch is slated for 12:30 p.m.
