Four Bulldogs Combine on One-Hit Shutout at Washington

Yale Splits Four-Game Series with Pac-12 Opponent

Four Bulldog pitchers combined on a one-hit shutout in a 1-0 victory at University of Washington on Sunday afternoon in Seattle. With the win, Yale improved to 3-4 on the season and earned a split of the four-game weekend series against the Huskies.

"There are many different ways to win a baseball game," said Yale head coach John Stuper.  "We haven't been swinging the bats consistently, but we have pitched it and played defense. That's how we won today."

Max Imhoff singled home Carson Swank for the only run of the contest, and the pitching staff took a no-hitter into the seventh to seal the victory.  Clark Klitenic started on the mound and faced one over the minimum over three solid innings.

"A couple firsts today," Stuper said.  "Clark Klitenic started his first game and was outstanding. Max Imhoff started his first game and he did a great job catching, not to mention driving in the game's only run."

Mick Kelley, who earned the victory, followed with three shutout innings.  Reid Easterly came on in the seventh and tossed 1 and 1/3 innings.  He also took advantage of a 5-4-3 double play to eliminate a leadoff single in the seventh.

In the eighth inning, Mark Capell entered with one out and a runner on second.  He closed out the inning with a strikeout and fly out.  Capell worked around two walks in the ninth and earned the save.

"Can't say enough about the four guys who pitched today," Stuper added.  "To only give up one hit, on the road against a Pac 12 team in the last game of a long four game series amazes me. Just so proud of them."

The game's lone run came when Swank led off the fourth and reached on an error.  He stole second and remained there for the first two outs of the inning.  Imhoff lined an 0-2 pitch to center and Swank slid home safely.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday for two games in the Bronx, N.Y.  Yale is scheduled to face LIU and Fordham.
