WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- The Bulldogs used late-game heroics to sweep a doubleheader from Brown on Saturday afternoon. With the wins, Yale improved to 16-10 overall and 7-4 in Ivy League play.
Ben Metzner delivered the game winning single in a 3-2, 10th-inning victory in game one. In game two.
Carson Swank broke a 6-6 tie in the 7th with a solo homer to left. Â
In game one,
Jimmy Chatfield led off the 10th with a walk and advanced to second on the play. After
Teddy Hague was intentionally walked, Metzner singled to right to score Chatfield with the winning run. Chatfield went 2 for 3 with three runs scored in the game.Â
Mike Walsh pitched 7 and 1/3 innings, allowed two runs and struck out 11.Â
Reid Easterly (2-3) shut out the Bears over the final 2 and 2/3 innings and earned the victory.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game two after two innings.Â
Colton Shaw and Swank had run-scoring hits.
After Brown scored three in the fifth inning. Yale got two runs back. Swank doubled home Metzner, and
Alec Atkinson singled to drive in Swank.
Swank finished the game 3 for 4 with two runs and three RBI. Â
Carter Kessinger earned the victory in relief.Â
Mark Capell struck out five over the final two innings to earn the save.Â
The two teams wrap up the three-game series tomorrow at noon.Â
