Latta Homers in 5-4 Loss to Princeton

Alex Perren with two hits in second game

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Maddie Latta continued her strong rookie season, belting her team leading sixth home run of the season, but the Yale softball team fell to Princeton 5-4 in the second game of a doubleheader at 5K Corral Field at DeWitt Family Stadium. The Tigers won the first game 12-0.

Latta's homer was a long blast over the left-field fence in the sixth inning and pulled the Bulldogs within one.

Yale threatened in the seventh, getting the tying and winning runs on base, but Princeton relief pitcher Molly Chambers recorded the final out.

Alex Perren went 2-for-4 and scored a run for the Bulldogs.

The Tigers had taken a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Yale quickly answered with three runs in their half of the inning. Sam Goodcase doubled home the first run, and Willa Ferrer knocked home the other two with a hard single off the pitcher.

Princeton, though, scored single runs in the third and fourth.

In the opener, the Tigers, the Ivy League's leading hitting team, banged out 13 hits en route to the victory.

Yale's only baserunners came on walks to Carolyn Skotz, Lauren Perren and Mady Smith. Princeton pitcher Alexis Laudenslager struck out 10.

The Bulldogs are back home next weekend, playing a three-game series with Cornell.
