LEONIA, N.J. – The No. 2 ranked Yale women's crew is off to a strong start in the Ivy League racing season. In fact, the Bulldogs were just as dominant as they were against their non-conference opponents.
Yale swept all five races against No. 16 Penn, Columbia and Dartmouth at Overpeck Park. The varsity eight victory over Dartmouth earned the Bulldogs the Class of 1985 Cup, and the overall wins over Penn and Columbia adds the Connell Cup to the Gilder Boathouse trophy case.
"In tough conditions, the team met the challenge," said
Will Porter, the Friends of YWC Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "We have things to work on and will get back to it on Monday."
The varsity eight finished nearly eight seconds faster than second-place Penn. The Bulldogs posted a time of 6:49.302. Columbia was third followed by Dartmouth.
The second varsity eight had a similar margin of victory, finishing with a time of 7:03.567. Penn was second in 7:11.735 followed by Dartmouth and Columbia, who were both well off the pace.
The varsity four cruised to an easy victory with a time of 7:49.718. Columbia was second in 8:11.152 followed by Penn and Dartmouth.
Yale's second varsity four (7:43.869) and third varsity eight (7:09.808) were also winners in convincing fashion.
The Bulldogs face Syracuse, Wisconsin and Cornell next Saturday in Saratoga, N.Y.
