Jimmy Chatfield homered and
Mason LaPlante scored twice to help the Bulldogs defeat Quinnipiac 8-7 on Wednesday in Hamden, Conn.
With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 17-11 and have won three of four. Â Next up for the Bulldogs is a three-game series with first-place Columbia beginning on Saturday.
Chatfield slammed a two-run shot, his team-leading 8th of the season, to cap a six-run second inning and give Yale a 6-1 lead. Â
Alec Atkinson and
Max Imhoff also had run-scoring hits in the inning.
Seven different Bulldogs had at least one hit and scored at least one run. LaPlante went 1 for 3, walked twice and stole three bases.Â
Teddy Hague and
Carson Swank both went 2 for 4 in the game.Â
Ben Metzner added a sac fly to score LaPlante in the seventh inning, and
Jake Gehri scored Swank after reaching on an error in the 9th. Â
Mick Kelley was credited with the victory after pitching 2 and 2/3 innings. Â He struck out four and allowed one run. Â
