Jimmy Chatfield and
Jake Gehri hit back-to-back homers and
Colton Shaw tossed six solid innings to lead the Bulldogs to an 18-5 victory at Cornell on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 13-8 and 4-2 in Ivy League play.Â
The Bulldogs scored two in the first and four in the second and never trailed in the game. Â Yale got things going in the first.
Mason LaPlante and
Colton Shaw pulled off a double steal, with LaPlante scoring on the play to put Yale on the board. Â
Ben Metzner added a run-scoring single to give Yale a 2-0 lead after one. Â
In the second,
Alec Atkinson started the scoring with a sac fly. Â Chatfield blasted a two-run shot and Gehri followed with a solo homer to make it 6-0. Â
Yale scored four more in the fifth, with Gehri and Shaw doing the damage. Shaw drove home
Jeff Pierantoni with a hit, and Gehri scored Atkinson and Shaw.
Shaw allowed two runs over six innings, struck out five and held the lead. Â
Quinn Cleary allowed two earned over the seventh and eighth. Â
Ben Gibbs struck out the side in a scoreless ninth.
Up next, the Bulldogs travel to Fairfield on Wednesday.
