PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Carmen Muscolina had two hits, but the Yale softball team dropped its season finale, falling 9-1 at Penn.
The Quakers scored six runs in the first inning to seize control and added three more runs in the third.
The Bulldogs had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
Carolyn Skotz drew a walk to lead off the game. Muscolina then reached first on a fielder's choice, and after
Miranda Papes reached on an error,
Willa Ferrer's clutch, two-out single through the right side scored Muscolina.
Yale threatened again in the fifth, loading the bases with two outs, but Penn pitcher Julia Longo worked out of the jam.
Skotz reached base at least once in 19 of her final 20 games of the season for Yale.
A young Bulldogs' squad that has only two seniors on the roster finished with a 9-12 Ivy League record. Yale's top five leading hitters will all return next season.
