The Seidman family has had quite an impact on the Yale Soccer program. Father Steven was a senior on the 1986 team that captured the Ivy League title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. His three sons – Will, Jonathan and Andrew – will all be together on the Yale roster this fall.
But before they head to New Haven, the three Seidman siblings will hope to make an impact for United States soccer at the Maccabiah Games in Israel later this month. Will, the oldest and a rising senior at Yale, will compete for the USA Open Men's Futsal team. Jonathan, a rising sophomore, is playing for the USA Open soccer team, and Andrew, who will be a first year, is on the USA U18 team.
"I am proud of William, Jonathan, and Andrew to earn this opportunity to represent the USA in the historic World Maccabiah Games in Israel," said
Kylie Stannard, the 5K Corral Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "This is truly special to have all three brothers represent their country, and especially at the same time. This is a selection from across the entire country and shows the quality of these young men as players and people that are passionate about the game, their country and their faith. I am excited to follow along with this incredible experience."
The Maccabiah Games, which take place every four years in Israel, run from July 12 through July 26. Nearly 10,000 athletes from 80 countries will compete in more than 40 sports. The opening ceremony is on July 14 at Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem.
"We are all excited to play in the Games," said Will, who will be part of an experience senior class at Yale this fall. "Growing up, we played a lot of 2v2 (our father being the fourth), so now competing together at Yale and for the US in Israel, albeit on separate teams, is very special. I would credit a lot of my Futsal ability - which I will be playing in Israel - to those 2v2 games. Our games were very competitive - occasionally ending early as physicality levels rose. We all know that this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity and are looking forward to seeing Israel, but at the end of the day this is a business trip. We're there to bring home gold for Team USA."
When the three arrive in New Haven in August, it will be first time they have all played together on the same team.
Both Will and Jonathan have already contributed to the Bulldogs' recent success. Will was part of the 2019 Ivy League championship team in his sophomore season, while Jonathan appeared in 14 games as a first year last fall. Andrew brings strong credentials as well. He helped lead Horace Greeley High School to a 14-0 record as a junior and was captain of the FC Westchester U17 Academy.
