The Yale volleyball team begins the 2022 season at the Seminole Invitational this weekend in Tallahassee, Fla.  The four-team event includes Flordia A&M, James Madison and Florida State.

Yale enters the 2022 season after a 16-7 overall record last season and a 9-5 mark in Ivy League play. The Bulldogs have finished first or second in the Ivy League in 16 of the last 18 seasons. 

The Bulldogs return their top two kill producers from last year - Bonnie Bostic and Mila Yarich.  Bostic led the team with 192 kills, while Yarich had 152. 

On defense, Yale brings back its top three leaders in digs -- Maile Somera (378), Yarich (182) and Carly Diehl (182).  Diehl also led the team in assists. 

In addition, the team welcomes back its top two blocker leaders -- Fatima Samb and Audrey Leak.

This year also marks the 20th season for head coach Erin Appleman.  In her time at Yale, Appleman has led the Bulldogs to an unprecedented 10 Ivy titles and made seven NCAA Tournament appearances. 

The Bulldogs were picked to finish third in the Ivy League preseason poll.  The conference returns 81 percent of its All-Ivy honorees from last season, including all seven first-team members. 

Scouting Florida A&M
FAMU enters the season as the reigning Southwestern Athletic Conference champs.  The Rattlers (0-4) opened the season last weekend with three losses at the Kansas State tournament, and also lost at Flordia State on Wednesday. 
Dominique Washington, the 2021 SWAC Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year, leads the team with 42 kills in the first four matches.

Scouting James Madison
The Dukes won all three matches last weekend to open the season - defeating Albany, Robert Morris and Kent State.  James Madison tied for first in the Sun Belt East Division coaches' poll.  Outside hitter Miëtte Veldman was named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week and  led the Dukes with 53 kills last weekend.

Scouting Florida State
Florida State (3-1) defeated Florida A&M on Wednesday and will host James Madison on Thursday.  The Noles went 2-1 at the "Tribute to #10" tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Seminoles defeated Illinois State and Dayton in four sets while dropping the final match of the tournament to Cincinnati in four sets. The Noles are led by freshman Audrey Rothman who entered the week leading the team in kills (34), digs (30) and aces (6) and was named the ACC Freshman of the Week on Monday.
