NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Bulldogs open their 2022 home schedule and host the Yale Invitational this weekend at the John J. Lee Amphitheater. 

Yale opens the weekend with a match against Villanova on Friday at 7 p.m.  Fordham and Sacred Heart are also participating in the invitational.  

Yale has opened the season 5-1 overall and won all three matches last weekend at the Syracuse Tournament including a victory over host Syracuse.  The Bulldogs also defeated Army and Hofstra. 

Cara Shultz was named Ivy League Player of the Week after earning MVP honors at the Syracuse Tournament.  Shultz posted 41 digs, 34 kills and 10 services last weekend, including two double-doubles against Army and Syracuse. 

Carly Diehl and Audrey Leak were also both named to the Ivy League Honor Roll.  

Entering the weekend, Leak is one of four Bulldogs averaging over two kills a set.  Mila Yarich (3.19) leads the team, followed by Shultz (2.90), Leak (2.57) and Gigi Barr (2.48).  

Yale has also been impressive at the service line.  Last weekend, the Bulldogs totaled 23 aces, and for the season, hold a 41-26 edge over opponents. 


Scouting Villanova
The Wildcats enter the weekend 3-6 overall and are coming off an 0-3 weekend at the Dayton Invivational with matches against Missouri State, Dayton and No. 25 Illinois. Rose Crist leads the team with a 3.14 kills per set average after earning All-Big East Freshman Team honors last year. Villanova was picked to finish sixth in the Big East Coaches' Preseason Poll. 

Scouting Fordham
The Rams begin the weekend with a 6-2 mark and split a pair of matches last weekend.  Fordham won at North Dakota and lost to Montana State in a neutral site match.  Whitley Moody leads the team with a 3.91 kills per set average and Audrey Brown on Monday was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. 

Scouting Sacred Heart
The Pioneers are 4-6 to start the weekend after winning two of three matches at home last weekend, including victories over Princeton and Stony Brook.  Sarah Ciszek (player of the week) and Emma Smallcomb (defensive player of the week) both won Northeast Conference awards this week.  Camryn Luginbuhl leads the team in kills per set (2.87).
