PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Bulldogs showed no quit in an impressive come-from-behind 3-2 victory at Brown on Friday night. The scores of the match were 26-28, 12-25, 25-23, 25-22 and 15-11. Â
Yale opened the Ivy League season with a road victory and extended its win streak to seven games. The Bulldogs are now 9-1 overall.Â
Audrey Leak had a team-high 17 kills, including the first two points of the fifth set, and set the tone for the final frame. As a team, the Bulldogs hit .455 in the deciding set.
"The team came back with grit and played really well," Yale head coach
Erin Appleman said. "Audrey was incredible."
Among the many other standout performances for Yale,
Mila Yarich had 14 kills, 14 digs and a team-best four blocks. In addition, Yarich finished off the night with the match point.Â
Cara Shultz narrowly missed a double-double with 15 kills and nine digs to go along with two service aces.Â
Maile Somera had a match-high 23 digs.Â
Yale pulled away in the fourth set with four straight points midway through the frame.Â
Chidera Chukwumerije and Leak combined on a block, to go along with kills from Shultz and another point from Leak to take a 16-12 lead. The Bulldogs never trailed from that point in the set.
The Bulldogs trailed 16-14 in the third before
Gigi Barr delivered a kill and
Renee Shultz served up one of six Yale aces on the evening to tie the set. Later in the game, Yarich broke a 22-22 tie to help keep Yale alive in the match. The Bulldogs forced two errors, including one on set point, to force the fourth. Â
Yale gets a week off and travels to Columbia and Cornell next weekend. The Bulldogs face the Lions on Friday night, and go to Ithaca to face the Big Red on Saturday.
