NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Behind a trio of top-10 finishes, the Yale men's golf program finished third in the 46th annual Macdonald Cup at the world-famous Yale Golf Course this weekend. First year Will Lodge highlighted a strong weekend for the Bulldogs, taking second on the individual leaderboard.
Minnesota won the Macdonald Cup at two-over par (1052) for the weekend, while Harvard finished second at four-over (1054) and Yale placed third at 10-over (1060). St. John's Peicheng Chen won individual medalist honors by shooting a nine-under (201), closely followed by Lodge at five-under (205).
In the final round on Sunday, the Bulldogs shot a two-under (348) – the best score of any team – to jump up two spots and edge Richmond by one stroke for third place. Junior Gabriel Ruiz saved his best round for Sunday with a three-under (67).Â
Lodge was masterful in his first Macdonald Cup – which included a four-under par (66) in Saturday's second round. He shot 69-66-70 respectively this weekend while leading the entire field in pars (41). His score of five-under on par 4 holes was second-best among all golfers throughout the three rounds.
Ruiz and sophomore Ben Carpenter tied for eighth place at one-under (209), joining Lodge as top-10 finishers. The duo combined for four rounds under-par between Saturday and Sunday.
Additional scores included sophomore Robert You tying for 30th at eight-over (218), senior Sho Wai Wu tying for 45th at 12-over (222) and sophomore Blake Brantley tying for 61st at 17-over (227).  Two golfers competing as individuals – first year Sam Davis and sophomore Bryant Reese – finished tied for 39th and 71st, respectively.
It is the sixth-straight year that Yale has finished in the top-three as a team at the Macdonald Cup.

Next week, the Bulldogs will play in the Hamptons Intercollegiate on Monday, October 3, and Tuesday, October 4, at the Maidstone Club in East Hampton, N.Y.
