The Yale men's hockey team returns home for a four-game home stand that begins with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Friday, Jan. 13. On Saturday, Yale welcomes Union to Ingalls Rink for an evening tilt with the Dutchmen. The Bulldogs will be hosting "Youth Night" for the Union tilt and have postgame autographs for those in attendance. Both contests will be streamed on ESPN+ and for international viewing on Stretch Internet.

Bulldog Bytes
  • Yale (2-10-3, 1-8-1 ECAC) picked up two draws in its road trip last weekend. One came against No. 8 Merrimack (3-3), while the other against Vermont (1-1).
  • The Bulldogs are 1-0-2 in the 2023 calendar year thus far.
  • David Chen is Yale's leading point getter with four goals and five assists on the season.
  • Chen, Ian Carpentier, and William Dineen are tied for a team-leading 26 shots.
  • Kieran O'Hearn leads Yale in blocks with 29, while Dylan Herzog has 26.
  • Luke Pearson has emerged in the 2023 calendar year. Pearson has a 1-1-3 record, and a .952 save percentage.

Scouting RPI
  • The Engineers (8-12-1, 3-7-0 ECAC) have lost four of their last five games.
  • Three of those games were in conference play with a 5-3 win over Colgate, and then losses to No. 18 Cornell (6-4) and Princeton (6-5).
  • Jakob Lee leads the team in points with 16 (6g, 10a), while Ryan Mahshie leads the team in goals with nine on the season.
  • Jack Watson has been RPI's typical starter in goal with 20 starts. The sophomore has eight wins, an .893 save percentage, and one shutout.
 
Last Meeting with the Engineers
The Bulldogs took the 5-2 victory over the Engineers in their last meeting on Feb. 19, 2022. Briggs Gammill (2), Kieran O'Hearn, Kyle Johnson, and Cole Donhauser were the goal scorers. Nathan Reid made 24 saves in goal.
 
Noting History
Yale has a 9-1 record against RPI in its last 10 outings. The lone win for RPI in that span was back on Dec. 1, 2017, when they took a 2-1 victory. 

Scouting Union
  • The Dutchmen (8-12-1, 3-7-0 ECAC) are 2-3 in their last three games.
  • The two wins in that span were non-conference victories over New Hampshire.
  • All three losses were at the hands of conference opponents, No. 2/3 Quinnipiac (8-1), No. 18/17 Cornell (6-1) and Colgate (2-1).
  • Nate Hanley is leading the way for the Dutchmen with 17 points (4g, 13a).
  • Tyler Watkins is the leading goal scorer with six. Two of his six goals are game-winners and three were on the powerplay.
  • Connor Murphy has seen the most time in goal for Union with 19 starts under his belt. The senior has seven wins, an .889 save percentage and one shutout.

Last Meeting with the Dutchmen
Yale was victorious the last time these teams met, 3-2. William Dineen (2) and Dylan Herzog scored with Dineen picking up the game-winner. Nathan Reid made 31 saves in between the pipes.

Over the last 10 games between the two sides, Yale holds a 7-2-1 record.
