PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 4 Yale men's squash team fell on the road to No. 3 Princeton, 5-4, at Jadwin Gymnasium. With the loss, the Bulldogs fell to 6-3 overall and 3-3 in the Ivy League, while the Tigers improved to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the Ivy.
"A tough loss for our team today, but they showed a lot of heart until the end," said
Lynn Leong, Brooks G. Ragen Director of Squash. "We had a lot of great performances from our players. From Tad [Carney] pulling off an amazing 3-0 sweep, Brian [Leonard] grinding out a big win in a two-hour match, Siow [Yee Xian] coming back from being down 7-9 in the fifth set to pull off the victory, and then to see Arav's [Bhagwati] massive battle in the final match of the night. We are proud of the fight they had. We will need to recover quick and then shift our focus to another tough match on Wednesday against Trinity."
After the score was tied 4-4, it all came down to the final match between
Arav Bhagwati and Princeton's Zain Ahmed. It was a back-and-forth battle from the beginning. After Bhagwati picked up the first set win, Ahmed responded with the next set win to equalize. This happened twice, forcing the match to go to a fifth set. Ahmed surged in the final set to secure the win for Princeton.
