BOSTON – Looking to knock off the defending Patriot League Regular Season Champions BU at Case Arena Tuesday night, the Yale women's basketball team rallied from a seven-point deficit in the fourth quarter to get within three on a layup by senior guard
Jenna Clark with 8:29 to play. But the Terriers rebuilt their lead to nine with 4:44 left, and that deficit proved too much for Yale to overcome. BU finished off a 60-53 win to remain unbeaten.
Yale (0-3, 0-0 Ivy League) hung close in the first quarter despite hot shooting by BU (50 percent). The game was tied six times, including at the end of the quarter: 12-12 thanks to a late three-pointer by Clark (12 points, six assists).
BU (3-0, 0-0 Patriot League) eventually expanded the lead to as much as eight in the second quarter and was up 30-25 at halftime. The third quarter was closely played, but the Terriers outscored Yale 13-11 to take a 43-36 lead into the fourth.
Sophomore guard
Kiley Capstraw scored four of her 14 points for the night in a span of 39 seconds early in the fourth. Along with Clark's layup, that gave Yale a 6-2 run to start the quarter that made the score 45-42 BU. But starting with a free throw – BU got 32 free throw attempts to Yale's 15 for the night – the Terriers built their lead back, and Yale got no closer than four the rest of the way.
Notes
- Yale had a 42-28 rebounding advantage, led by 10 rebounds from senior forward Brenna McDonald and eight from junior guard Nyla McGill.
- The Bulldogs limited BU to a 1-for-10 performance on three pointers, but were hurt by shooting just 2-for-19 from deep themselves.
- First year guard Lucy Lynn made her Yale debut.
