MONCTON, New Brunswick – Yale used a big comeback to force overtime against Weber State, but the Wildcats got hot in overtime to escape with a 75-65 victory on the second day of the Atlantic Slam.
The Bulldogs (3-2) were trailing by 14, 53-39, with 7:30 left in the second half but mounted a big rally.
August Mahoney capped the comeback with a three-pointer with two seconds left that tied the score at 59 and forced overtime.
TURNING POINT
The Wildcats opened the extra period with a 7-2 run. Yale closed to within three, but Weber State scored the next seven points to seize control.
KEY STAT
The Wildcats were 3-of-4 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line in overtime.
SCORING LEADERS
Danny Wolf scored a career-high 20 points to pace Yale.
Matt Knowling (16 points) and
John Poulakidas (14) also scored in double figures.
Dillon Jones led Weber State with 17 points, and Steven Verplancken added 15.
