Presthus Wins Defensive Player of the Year; Five Bulldogs Earn All-Ivy Accolades

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Following an outstanding regular season in which the Bulldogs clinched a berth in the inaugural conference tournament, junior TJ Presthus was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year and five Bulldogs were named to All-Ivy teams. Presthus earned the prestigious award and a place on the first team with midfielder Max Rogers. Forward Eric Lagos and goalkeeper Chris Edwards landed a spot on the second team. Senior captain Jake Schaffer was an honorable mention conference selection.

"We always talk about individual awards being a byproduct of team success, and we are all very excited and happy for the well-deserved recognition of some individual players," said Kylie Stannard, the 5K Corral Head Coach of the Bulldogs.  "It is a huge testament to them but also to every player, coach and support staff that works very hard to have a high standard and to help everyone constantly strive to grow and be their best."

Presthus was often times the most impactful player of the field for the Bulldogs this season as a lockdown center back and a leader on the defensive end. The junior started all 16 teams and played in all but three minutes so far this season. In addition to his defensive prowess, Presthus added two goals and one assist during the regular season and served as the team's primary penalty kick taker. In each of his three seasons with the Bulldogs, Presthus has been named to an All-Ivy team at year end.

Rogers earned first team All-Ivy honors after securing an honorable mention position last season. Rogers was a catalyst on the offensive side, leading the Bulldogs in assists with six, while adding three goals. Rogers has been a consistent force, starting all 16 games in the midfield.

Lagos received All-Ivy second team laurels as the main goalscorer for Yale this season. The senior forward led the team with five goals despite missing nearly five games. He also added two helpers. Additionally, Lagos was named Yale's Academic All-Ivy recipient for his work in the classroom and contributions on the field.

Also earning a spot on the All-Ivy second team was Edwards who was an outstanding and stabilizing presence between the posts for the Bulldogs this season. In his first year as starter, Edwards handled the responsibilities with ease, playing in every minute. The senior goalkeeper allowed just over one goal per game, while making 41 saves, including a career-high of eight in the Bulldogs' win over UConn on Sept. 8. Edwards also picked up eight victories and six clean sheets along the way.

Schaffer was an honorable mention conference selection as a defensive stalwart for the Elis. The senior captain demonstrated his leadership ability on a daily basis, orchestrating a formidable back line which only allowed six goals to Ivy League opponents all season.

The Bulldogs will play Harvard in the semifinals of the inaugural Ivy League tournament on Friday, Nov. 10 at Penn.
