No. 9 Bulldogs Beat No. 19 Denver for Second Straight Win

Brandau and Sharp both score three goals in victory

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Brad Sharp and Matt Brandau both scored three goals to pace the No. 9 Bulldogs to an 11-9 victory over No. 19 Denver on Saturday afternoon at Reese Stadium.

Sharp netted two goals in the first quarter, including two in the first four and a half minutes, to give Yale the early lead.  Brandau, who recently reached 200 points in his career, had a five-point day and broke a 2-2 tie in the opening quarter with his first goal of the day.

Yale never trailed again and took a 7-5 lead into halftime.

The Bulldogs (3-1) pulled away in the third. Sharp got the scoring going in the third – the first of three Yale goals in the quarter.

Brandau scored about a minute after Sharp, and Kyle Zawadzki added his first goal of the year to give Yale the 10-5 lead.  Patrick Hackler scored an insurance goal at the 10:36 mark of the fourth to make it 11-6.

Denver scored three straight goals, including the last one with 2:10 to go.  Jared Paquette made 13 saves for Yale, including a nifty stop in the final 30 seconds to preserve the victory.

The Bulldogs, who held a 39-35 edge in shots, also had goals from Johnny Keib and two from Max Krevsky.  Yale returns to action next Saturday with a home game against Cornell.
