SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Yale men's tennis team closed its spring break trip to California with another impressive victory. The Bulldogs, No. 62 in the ITA computer rankings, defeated Santa Clara 5-2.
Yale won the doubles point behind victories from
Theo Dean and
Aidan Reilly, 6-3 at No. 2, and
Eric Li and
Michael Sun, 6-3 at No. 3.
In singles, Dean cruised to a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1,
Walker Oberg posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 6 and
Vignesh Gogineni won 6-2, 7-6 at No. 2. Reilly was the only Bulldog to need three sets to win in singles, and he took the deciding set of his match 6-0.
Yale (9-5) split its four matches on the West Coast. The Bulldogs have one more match before the start of Ivy League play, against St. John's on Mar. 31. The Ivy opener is home against Harvard on Apr. 7.
