WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Jake Williams capped a four-hit day for the Bulldogs with the game-winning hit in the 14
th inning in a 4-3 victory over Sacred Heart on Wednesday at Bush '48 Field.
Williams also gave Yale the lead in the 3
rd with a two-run double to score
Jimmy Chatfield and
Alec Atkinson and give Yale a 3-1 lead. Sacred Heart tied the game with two runs in the eighth and no runs were scored until Williams delivered in the 14
th.
The Bulldogs (6-12) received several key pitching efforts.
Mick Kelley started, pitched into the seventh, allowed only one earned run and struck out four.
After the Pioneers (11-10) tied the game in the eighth, the bullpen tossed zeros on the scoreboard.
Daniel Cohen pitched three scoreless innings,
Mark Capell did not allow a run in the 11
th, and
Ethan Lewis pitched the final three innings and earned the victory.
Beck Milner got Yale on the board in the second with a single to score Williams. Chatfield also had four hits in the game, while Milner and Atkinson both had two hits.
The Bulldogs are back in action this weekend with a three-game series at Brown.
