PRINCETON, N.J. – Three of the top women's crews in the nation faced off on Saturday on Lake Carnegie. And all three left with something to feel positive about.
 
Yale, ranked No. 3 in the nation, won the second varsity eight, finishing with a time of 6:30.0, more than two seconds faster than second-place Princeton (6:32.5). The Tigers narrowly edged Texas, which crossed the line in 6:32.6. The Bulldogs' margin of victory was the largest of any of the NCAA boats.
 
Princeton, ranked No. 4, retained the Eisenburg Cup by winning the varsity eight. The Tigers posted a time of 6:24.2, less than a second faster than second-place Texas (6:25.0). Yale finished third in 6:28.4.
 
Princeton also had a narrow victory in the varsity four with a time of 7:22.3, just ahead of Texas (7:22.6). The Bulldogs were third in 7:26.8.
 
The Longhorns, the two-time defending NCAA champions who entered ranked No. 1 in the nation, can take solace that they finished a very close second in two of the NCAA crews on an unfamiliar course.
 
Yale won the third varsity eight convincingly over Princeton with a time of 6:56.3, while Texas captured the second varsity four in 7:27.9.
 
"Mixed results today," said Will Porter, The Friends of YWC Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "We have work to do and time to put our best foot forward at the Ivy Championships."
 
These three teams will very likely be together again at the NCAA Championship in late May in Cherry Hill, N.J.
 
Yale and Princeton will battle again at the Ivy League Championships on May 14 in Worcester, Mass.
