Bulldogs Take Down Penn in Two-Game Set

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale softball team snagged a pair of Ivy League wins over Penn at 5K Corral Field at DeWitt Family Stadium. The Bulldogs took a 7-3 victory in game one before coming from behind in a 2-1 game two victory. The wins put Yale at 13-15 overall and 6-5 in the Ivy, while Penn fell to 3-29 overall and 1-10 in the conference.

Game 1: Yale 7, Penn 3
  • B1 | With two outs and two on, Maddie Latta singled through the left side to give Yale an early lead.
  • B4 | After two scoreless innings, Yale's offense was back to work. Alex Perren and SJ Mull reached base in their respective at bats, bringing up Libby Peoples. Peoples ripped a shot that ricocheted off the pitcher and landed in the outfield allowing the first year to reach third for the triple, scoring Perren and Mull in the process. Willa Ferrer knocked in Peoples for the third run of the inning, but the Bulldogs were not done there. Lauren Perren blasted a two RBI home run to center field, and then Sophie Woodridge followed up Perren with a flaming hot shot to center field for the solo home run and a commanding 7-0 lead.
  • T6 | Penn's counterattack came in the sixth inning as the Quakers picked up three runs on a pair of singles.
  • T7 | The Quakers recorded one hit in the seventh, but the Bulldogs were able to shut down their offense for the game one win.

Game 2: Yale 2, Penn 1
  • T4 | Penn hit a solo home run to center field to open the scoring.
  • B5 | Maddie Latta first hit a lead-off single to left field. Carmen Muscolina, who came in to pinch hit with Yale down a run, followed Latta with another single to left field. With one out, Grayson Vives took his chance at the plate and rocked a shot to right center that tied the game.
  • B6 | Lauren Perren got the Bulldogs on the basepath with a one out double to left center. Later in the inning and with two outs, it was Latta again doing work in the batter's box with a single up the middle to score Perren for the lead.
  • T7 | The Bulldogs' defense went to work in the final inning, knocking down a 1-2-3 inning for the victory.
