NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The defending Ivy League champion Bulldogs begin the defense of their title this weekend at home in the conference-opener against Brown.

Here are notes:

• The Bulldogs have won five of six matches heading into Friday's match.
• Last time out Yale won at Loyola Chicago on Saturday for its second road victory of the season. 
• Betsy Goodenow was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Monday.  Goodenow led the Bulldogs in kills last weekend, and in the victory on Saturday had 17 kills, 10 digs and hit .421.
• Carly Diehl earned a spot on the Ivy League Honor Roll after narrowly missing a triple-double.  Diehl had 49 assists, 10 digs and nine kills with a .444 hitting percentage in the victory over Loyola Chicago.
• Diehl ranks third in the conference in assists per set and service aces per set.
• Fatima Samb ranks eighth in the conference and leads the Bulldogs in blocks per set.
• Mila Yarich led the Bulldogs with 24 digs and four service aces last weekend in two matches.

Scouting Brown

The Bears enter the match 9-1 against non-conference competition.  Brown leads the Ivy League in 2023 in kills per set, hitting percentage, assists per set and opponent hitting percentage.  Cierra Jenkins and Beau Vanderlaan have won the last two conference player of the week awards.
