Bulldogs Triumph 3-2 Over Saint Joseph's

Box Score PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Yale men's soccer team topped Saint Joseph's (Pa.) 3-2 on Monday night on the road. The Bulldogs had their best offensive game with three goals by three separate players, and senior Max Rogers tallied two assists, serving as a major catalyst for the visitors.

"Overall, this is a very good result with a tough turnaround from Saturday," said Kylie Stannard, the 5K Corral Head Coach of the Bulldogs.  "I was disappointed how we started the game and didn't really get going until we found ourselves down a goal, but it was huge to get a goal before half and a big credit to the guys that came in off the bench to help create a little spark."

"In the second half, we did much better to get on the ball and dominate possession and dictating the attacking side of the ball," said Stannard. "This allowed us to open them up more and get into more dangerous spots which created some great goals. We do still need to do better at managing the game with a lead and then trying to put a game away rather than letting a team back in the game and making it more interesting than it needs to be."

With the victory, Yale improves to 4-3-1, while the Hawks fall to 3-6-1.

How It Happened
  • 27' | On a corner kick, James Fletcher sends it into the box for teammate Alex Hartmann. Hartmann's header deflects off a Yale defender and into the back of the net to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
  • 43' | GOAL! Following a shot from just inside the 18 that is knocked away by the Hawks keeper, Olivier Van Spaendonck gathers the rebound and puts it in the goal to tie the game at one.
  • 55' | GOAL! Max Rogers dribbles down the near side of the field and sends a low cross into the box. The Hawks goaltender makes a diving stop but the ball trickles onto the foot of Farouz who easily sends it to the back of the net to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.
  • 60' | GOAL! Alex Umana puts in a header off a beautiful setup from Rogers who crossed it into the box from just past midfield.
  • 72' | Saint Joseph's scores off a header from Alex Hood to cut the deficit to 3-2.
