No. 14 Harvard Takes Rainy 3-2 Win

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale field hockey team fell behind early against No. 14 Harvard on Friday night in the pouring rain at Johnson Field, but the Bulldogs kept battling. After a Harvard goal at 6:53 the Bulldogs held the Crimson scoreless for nearly 28 minutes, tying the game on a goal by sophomore forward Poppy Beales in the second quarter. But Harvard scored twice in the third, and a fourth-quarter goal by junior back Colette Staadecker was not enough for the Bulldogs to avoid a 3-2 defeat.

Scoring Summary
Notes
  • With Yale trailing 1-0, junior forward Lily Ramsey fed sophomore forward Poppy Beales in transition for the game-tying goal at 28:37. Beales dribbled past a defender and, while slightly off-balance, back-handed one past Harvard goalkeeper Tessa Shahbo.
  • Junior back Colette Staadecker scored on a penalty corner at 50:10 for her first career goal. Junior back Keely Comizio was the stick stopper and junior midfielder/forward Ellie Barlow was the inserter.
  • Beales now has five goals in the last six games.
  • Junior goalkeeper Alexa Pitts came on in relief of senior Luanna Summer to play the final 17:27, making one save.
  • Comizio had a defensive save, getting her stick up high to deny a rebound attempt by Harvard with 3:25 left in the game.
