Early Lead Slips Away; Bulldogs Fall at No. 11 Saint Joseph’s

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Yale field hockey team took a 1-0 lead midway through the second quarter Sunday afternoon at Ellen Ryan Field against No. 11 Saint Joseph's. But the Hawks answered with three goals in a span of less than four minutes later in the quarter to take a commanding lead, then went on to a 6-1 win. The loss drops Yale to 1-1 on the season, while Saint Joseph's improves to 3-1.

  • Junior midfielder/forward Nicole Gotthardt scored for the second straight game.
  • Even with the game's start time moved up an hour and a half to 10:30 a.m., temperatures approached 90 degrees with high humidity and virtually no cloud cover from the sun.
