NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Bulldogs will host Sacred Heart, Rhode Island and UConn as part of the 2023 Yale Invitational this weekend at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.  Matches begin at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and continue Saturday.  UConn was scheduled to host Sacred Heart on Thursday as part of the tournament.
Here are notes entering the weekend:
  • The Bulldogs opened the 2023 season with a 1-2 record last weekend at the Black Knights Invitational. 
  • Yale defeated host Army 3-1 on Sunday to earn a road win and its first victory of the season.
  • Junior Carly Diehl was named to the all-tournament team after averaging a kill and dig per set, in addition to leading the Bulldogs with 101 assists over three matches.
  • Maile Somera notched her 1,000th career dig at Yale last weekend, and posted a career-high 27 against High Point last Friday.  Somera averaged 4.67 digs per set in the three matches.
  • Junior Mila Yarich and first-year Betsy Goodenow were named to the Ivy League Weekly Honor Roll for their efforts last weekend.
  • Yarich led the Bulldogs averaged over three kills and three digs per set. 
  • Goodenow posted 27 kills, second most on the team, and added 20 digs in her first collegiate weekend of matches.
Scouting Sacred Heart
The Pioneers (0-5) begin the weekend in search of their first win of the season.  For the second straight week, Sacred Heart University women's volleyball first year setter Gaby Zovko was named the NEC Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week after her performances last weekend against Hofstra, UMBC and Fairfield.

Scouting Rhode Island
The Rams (1-5) enter the weekend following a 3-1 loss to Brown on Sept. 2 in Kingston.  Madi Disu (2.33) and Andrea Owens (2.15) lead URI in kills per set.  Owens led the team with 10 kills in the loss to Brown last Saturday. 

Scouting UConn
The Huskies (2-4) last weekend hosted their first set of home matches at the new UConn Volleyball Facility. UConn fell to Hofstra and Lehigh but battled back to take its first home win of the season over Merrimack College.  Jess Perry was named to the all-tournament team and finished the weekend with 27 total kills and four blocks.
