OTTAWA, Ont. -- Yale women's ice hockey alumna
Claire Dalton '23 made her professional hockey debut for Montreal on Tuesday evening at TD Place in Ottawa. Playing in the newly-formed Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL), Dalton netted the first-ever goal for the Montreal team during a 3-2 overtime victory against the Ottawa squad.
During the second period with her team down 1-0, Dalton gathered the puck near the faceoff circle in the attacking zone. She then fired a beautiful near-post wrist shot to beat the Ottawa goaltender, tying the game at one. Montreal would later win the season opener in overtime.
Dalton graduated from Yale in 2023, ending her collegiate tenure as one of the best players in program history. She tallied 133 points in 130 games and wrapped up her illustrious career as the all-time leader in assists (89).
Montreal will continue its 24-game regular season through the first weekend of May.
