Bulldogs Drop Conference Matchup to Harvard

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 contest to Harvard on Saturday night at Reese Stadium. Nicholas Nyquist scored the game's lone goal in the 48th minute giving the Crimson the victory. Yale dominated in offensive output, tripling Harvard in shots and corner kicks, but could not find the equalizer late in the game.

Harvard earned its first Ivy League win of the season and improved to 2-4-4 overall. Yale dropped to 4-6-1 with the loss. Both teams sit in the middle of the conference standings with three points each.

"Despite the result tonight, I think we played a very strong game and deserved a much better result but ultimately need to take our chances better," said Kylie Stannard, the 5K Corral Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "Overall, this is one of our better performances and if we continue to play like we did tonight, we will earn some positive results."

How it Happened
  • 15' | Simon Adjakple smashed a right-footed shot towards goal from just inside the 18, but his strike was saved by Harvard keeper Lucian Wood.
  • 33' | Yale nearly got on the board after Wood fumbled a save, but the rebound attempt by the Bulldogs was blocked by a Harvard defender.
  • 48' | Harvard got on the scoreboard first with a goal by Nicholas Nyquist. 1-0 Harvard
  • 57' | Adjakple nearly found the equalizer for the Bulldogs off a well-timed header, but his shot was saved by Wood.
  • 65' | Once again Yale threatened following a corner kick. But a rocket from TJ Presthus from inside the box clanged off the crossbar and out of play.
  • FT | Yale outshot Harvard 12-3 in the second half alone and earned eight corner kicks.
