Bulldogs Skate to 1-1 Tie With Quinnipiac

Yale falls in shootout

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Yale women's ice hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie against ECAC Hockey rival Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon at Ingalls Rink. The two teams were deadlocked at one goal a piece through regulation, and after a scoreless overtime, the squads entered a shootout. Ultimately, the Bobcats won the shootout 2-1.

The Bulldogs move to 2-0-1 so far this season, while the Bobcats sport an overall record of 6-3-1.

Saturday's contest held special meaning for the Bulldogs, as the game was held in honor of Mandi Schwartz '10, a former Yale women's ice hockey player, who passed away after a battle with acute myeloid leukemia on April 3, 2011, at the age of 23. Since then, Yale has launched the Mandi Schwartz Marrow Donor Registration Drive, which is part of the nationwide "Get in the Game. Save a Life" campaign for the National Marrow Donor Program. The athletic department has held drives in each of the past 14 springs, ever since Mandi was first diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in December of 2008. To date, 100 donors from Yale's drive have been matched with recipients across the country.
