Bulldogs Fall to Columbia on Senior Day

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to Columbia at Reese Stadium. The Bulldogs fell to 8-6-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the Ivy League, while the Lions improved to 7-3-4 overall and 5-0-1 in the conference.

"We did some very exciting things today, but unfortunately couldn't hold onto our lead," said Sarah Martinez, Loring Family Head Coach. "Credit to Columbia – they are a very good team with a lot of attacking threat. We wanted to send our seniors off Reese with a victory for all they have given to the program, but fortunately, we have plenty to still play for."

Game Summary
  • 40' | Late in the first half, Tanner Cahalan started a beautiful sequence resulting in a goal. After charging up the left side, she sent a pass to Ashley Kirschner. Kirschner took space and waited for the perfect moment to slot a pass over to Karoline Hernes. The sophomore launched a shot from beyond the box that found the back of the net.
  • 60' | On the corner service, Alanna Butcher curled a shot top right for the Olimpico goal to give Yale a two-goal lead.
  • 65' | Columbia's Maia Tabion split Yale's lead in half.
  • 72' | The Lions found the equalizer six minutes later.

Up Next
"As it goes – this season will come down to our final weekend on the road against Harvard. We've done enough to still control our own destiny. We will feel a playoff type game before playoff starts and I'm excited to see how our group responds and prepares for this opportunity," said Martinez in closing. The Bulldogs travel to Cambridge on Saturday, Nov. 2 for their final game of the season and an Ivy Tournament berth on the line for both sides.
