Five things to know:
- Hear from Coach – "Our group is excited to get the season underway this weekend. They have been preparing since last spring with their offseason conditioning and have worked extremely hard since arriving on campus in August," said Keith Allain, Malcolm G. Chace Head Coach. "We have a great mix of veteran leadership and young talent but the key to any success we have will be our competitive nature. The opportunity to start our season at home against the number one ranked team in the nation and the defending national champs is a challenge that we embrace. Yale Hockey supporters can expect our team to compete, have an elite work ethic, be a cohesive unit on the ice, and grow together as the season goes on."
Â
- Back for More – There are 20 members of the 2023-24 team that are returning to the fold – led by captain Will Dineen. Of the returners, Dineen leads a group of six seniors, seven juniors, and seven sophomores.
Â
- New Kids in Town – Eight new players join the Bulldogs this season – forwards Ronan O'Donnell, Micah Berger, Zach Wagnon, Donovan Frias, Julian Frias, defenders Hughie Hooker and Joe Blackley, and goaltender Noah Pak. Â
Â
- Different Look – This is the first time since the 2017-18 season that the Bulldogs haven't opened the season against travel partner, Brown. The last six seasons, Yale has faced the Bears either on the road or at home to start the season. In 2016-17, they opened against Sacred Heart at home.
Â
- Top Producers – Yale returns its top two point getters in David Chen (18 points) and Briggs Gammill (15). In net, Jack Stark, who had a breakout rookie season will be a key factor for Yale. He ended last season with a .919 save percentage and a 2.22 goals against average, while earning ECAC All-Rookie team honors as well as Second Team All-Ivy accolades.
Looking Ahead
Following their season openers against Denver, Yale will hit the road for two ECAC Hockey match ups at Cornell and Colgate on Nov. 8 and Nov. 9, respectively.
