Bulldogs Defeat Penn 3-1

Yale clinches spot for Ivy League Postseason Tournament

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Bulldogs defeated Penn 3-1 on Saturday night at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.  The scores of the match were 22-25, 25-15, 25-14 and 25-21.

Match summary:
  • The Bulldogs improved to 9-1 in the Ivy League and remain in first place.
  • With tonight's victory, Yale clinched a spot in the Ivy League postseason tournament.
  • Five Bulldogs had at least 10 kills:  Betsy Goodenow (15), Laurece Abraham (11), Gigi Barr (11), Lauren Kellen (10) and Mila Yarich (10).  
  • Kellen had a career-high in kills.
  • The Bulldogs had a 14-8 advantage in service aces led by Yarich who had five.  The 14 aces marked the highest total this year for the Bulldogs.
  • Yale hit .348 as a team -- its highest total since the victory at Penn back on October 4.
  • Carly Diehl had 46 assists, 10 digs, five kills, two blocks and two aces.   
  • The Bulldogs used a 3-0 run to take the lead 19-17 in the fourth set.  The rally was sparked by Kellen, who book-ended the spurt with a kill and a solo block in between a Cara Shultz ace.  Yale led the rest of the set and scored the final three points of the set with two kills from Goodenow and one from Abraham.

  • The Bulldogs close out the home portion of their conference schedule with matches against Dartmouth and Harvard.
