Pitsenberger Tabbed to Lead Team 152

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – As Team 151 closed its chapter yesterday with a triumphant 34-29 victory over the team from Cambridge, the Yale football team turned the page Sunday afternoon, naming running back Josh Pitsenberger as the captain of Team 152.
 
The announcement was made official at the team's annual postseason banquet, hosted this year at the Schwarzman Center on Yale's campus.

"I'm truly honored to be the captain of Team 152," said Pitsenberger. "I am grateful to my teammates for their trust in me to lead the team and I am excited for what lies ahead. I understand the significant responsibility that comes with this role, but I am confident knowing that I have the support of those around me and a dedicated team willing to chase elite. While we still have much to prove, I believe we have the potential to achieve great things." 
 
The Bethesda, Maryland native has had quite the career for Yale including Ivy League Championship titles in 2022 and 2023. In his first year, he was the 2022 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, named to the Stats Perform FCS Freshman All-America team, and a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award, presented to the national freshman of the year in college football's Division I subdivision. Additionally, he was a first team All-Ivy selection. In his second year, despite missing time due to injury, he was a second team All-Ivy selection was among the leaders in the Ivy League in rushing touchdowns and rushing yards.
 
"I am so excited for Josh and Team 152," said Tony Reno, Joel E. Smilow '54 Head Coach. "He has earned the respect of his teammates through his play, hard work, and commitment to Yale Football on and off the field. I can't wait to get to work with him on building our team."
 
This year, Pitsenberger appeared in all 10 games for Yale, while rushing a career-high 867 yards and bringing in seven rushing touchdowns. The junior also picked up a career-high 18 receptions for 129 yards and two touchdowns. He was third in the conference in rushing yards and rushing yards per game.
